Advent Bunting

As usual, apologies for the appalling video technique. Yet here, at last is the completed Advent Bunting! I finished making it a while ago, but added the ribbons at 5.45 this morning, not because I wanted to, but because there were a couple of cats outside having a fracas and suddenly I was WIDE AWAKE and then I remembered it is 1st December tomorrow and the bunting should make its debut but was sans hanging appendages.

I am feeling marginally fractious myself now, because sewing ribbon onto bunting at 5.45 a.m with the assistance of one ribbon-obsessed kitten is not the most relaxing start to the day. Therefore, I have decided that today shall be a crafting day, and possibly a walk in the park day if the weather cheers up as it is looking rather grim at the mo. And then a bit of reading day, and watching a Christmas DVD day.

Enjoy the video!

  1. My, that was an early start! Congratulations on finishing the bunting, it looks fab. I'm making Christmas stockings today - I have a helpful tabby cat on my knee at this very minute, and no doubt he'll have a paw in the proceedings.

  2. Yes, Advent starts in 2 hours from now for me. Well less tha 2 hours actually. Perhaps I should go to bed.
I do like your Advent bunting, I might try making some myself for next year. I've told my GKB it's time to get the Christmas tree out so I can decorate it, I think he thought I was joking. I like a real tree but the sneezing starts these days if I have one so best not.

  3. Wow! festive bunting looks very impressive. I was having a weird dream that I was being imprisoned in Russia for a fabricated crime and then found a lawyer who was confident he could get me out at 5.45. I think I'd rather have been buntinging with FBM.

How are the crimble story installments coming on? I am expecting one tomorrow..... XX

  4. Morning, Olly! The early start was not of my instigation - I hate getting up in the dark, but once I am awake, I have to get up. Hope the stocking making with cat in tow (or should that be 'toe'? Haha!) goes well. I am on Christmas owls today - knitting and stuffing!

Hello Diana and many Advent blessings to you! I think we are probably off to buy our Christmas tree tomorrow. I do like a real one, and every year I forget that the sap brings me out in a rash and I do stupid things like carrying it wearing a short-sleeved top! But the smell is divine and it is even worth all those needles falling into the carpet! Hope GKB is up in that loft soon retrieving your tree! (And if it is any consolation, my daughter-in-law put her decorations up a couple of weeks ago, so you are late by comparison!)

So what, then, is the significance of 5.45, CT? Weird! FBM was very unhelpful when it came to attaching the bunting to the bannister and then adding the sweet goodies! Way too excitable. The story is coming along fine and Part 1 is all ready to go tomorrow! I feel it only fair to warn you, given my previous Christmas Stories, that I shall likely lose the plot (literally) at some point and it will all become a bit frantic. But I am a trier, and I hope it will be generally entertaining. There will be lots of Christmas Chickens! Xx

  5. Excellent! Christmas Chickens sound perfect xxx

(and just realised, it sounded like the lawyer was getting me out at 5.45, when what I meant was I was having the dream about then...)

  6. Well, I have to say that I thought, 'CT dreams of VERY precise lawyers!'

  7. What a splendid way to do a Christmas dressing up of the banisters. But, Denise, what if two people would want to be partaking of the one candy stick for a particular day at the same time. Is it permissible to 'borrow' the candy stick from the following day, or will bargaining take place, or swaps, or earnest discussion, or tantrums, or the stamping of feet, or any other such behaviour relevant to the thwarted desire for a munch of sweetness when the desirable sweety has already been had away for that day by someone else. I feel that a certain set of 'rules' should be instated should this possible event happen. Of course, you, as the maker of this delicious sweety treat flags, should not be allowed to follow these rules, but would be fully justified in expecting everyone else to follow them, particularly one's man, even if he has taken it upon himself to make a plea bargain, hoping to swap a delicious morsel of something or other that, by his very hands, he has made that day, for a candy treat.
If I were you, I would keep a secret stash hidden away should such an event happen.
    Love and blessings to you......

  8. What a brilliant idea. You should sell some and make your fortune.
Am looking forward to advent stories too. Just as long as the Christmas chicken doesn't end up in the pot.. If that is in, start editing now.

  9. Ah, now Vera - Andy is going to be away for Advent Days 2,3,4 and 5 of next week, so there will be surplus sweetie goodies shuffling their way up the Advent Countdown, if you get my drift. Also, there would have been more chocolate coins in the pockets only I bought them a couple of weeks ago, and when one knows they are in the cupboard, just sitting there and waiting, then one can sometimes, of an evening, hear them calling....'Here we are, Denise...lovely chocolate just 8 steps away, in the kitchen.' So I am, in chocolate coinage terms, already 7 days into Advent!

Jessica, I was very pleased with how it turned out. I am hoping it will become somewhat of an heirloom providing Flora can keep her kitten claws to herself and not shred it to pieces. I made it from strong calico linen stuff, so it should be okay. And fear not - no chicken shall suffer in the making of the Advent Story. Remember I am a vegetarian so the worse that could happen would be something like a kidney bean massacre!
