Home Alone and Safe

Well, here is a quick video of Primrose and Daisy's new secure run. We are planning to plant climbers around it so it becomes like a romantic arbour-type edifice, but for now, here it is in all its naked glory! Les femmes poulets, as you can see, are very impressed! Or probably not.

  1. Hooray! Well done Andy on putting it all together. It looks very smart. The perching (or not) did make me laugh. Our girls do use their various perches, so perhaps it is just a matter of time? xx

  2. Excellent. I was unable to get beyond 48 secs because I am reading in bed and himself is (was) asleep and I have yet to master the volume buttons but it looks like a robust construction and so glad P & D are now safe. :)

  3. Hooray and excellent indeed! I wonder if our girls are perch resistant because they ignore the roosting bars in the pod, too, preferring to pile into the nesting box together. Time will tell...

  4. Now, I don't want to cast aspersions on himself's excellent perch-putting-up-skills, but could it be that they are at the wrong height? Our chooks also nested in their boxes when the perches initially went up, so we altered the height and now they all fall asleep perched.
PS- thank you for the lovely birthday card. I am looking forward to having both a moth person and a bird person named after me!! :-) xx

  7. It is very possible that the perches are incorrectly heighted! The swing is definitely too high. The lower one...well, the chicks like to perch on the back of the picnic chairs which are of a similar height. But the backs of the chairs are much thicker than my perches. I will try further perches.
